Just to keep things balanced, I'm going to say that backfires were greatly reduced when I removed the white spacer after putting on a Jardine. The Jardine sound is deep to my ear without being excessively loud, but the rust/discoloration comments are true. There are probably hundreds of postings and replies on the subject of exhaust/spacers/carb mods. Read through them as you wait for the snow to melt:-)
